Hyundai Concept THREE was unveiled to the world at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. As the first compact EV in the IONIQ family, it’s the next step in Hyundai's electrification journey.
I was responsible for the interior design, as my theme was selected in the competition phase, based on Zdenek Borysek's architecture. Together with him, Alex Suvorov and Marie Coppieters de Gibson, we developed the interior design over the course of 1,5 years.
FORM FOLLOWS MATERIAL
The interior has been inspired by upholstered furniture. Generously curved volumes offer soft, warm touch points, while the asymmetric architecture creates a focused interaction zone - with all key controls within reach - while all other areas remain free from clutter. Cuts in the upholstery are highlighted to show the craftsmanship and authentic treatment of the material.
Inspired by iconic lounge chairs, the seats were designed to offer maximum comfort. In addition, the break-up of lower and upper volumes, create a sleek and unique proportion.
The interior controls, called 'widgets', are modular and customizable to match your lifestyle. Into tech? Add all the screens you want. Prefer analog? Swap them for your favorite haptic buttons. We even imagine a future community where users exchange, customize and perhaps even (co)-create their own widgets!
BUILDING PROCESS
THE CAR
FORM FOLLOWS FUN
In addition, my passion for graphic design made me develop the car's avatar, 'Mr. Pix', the official '3' logo and a font fitting to the exterior form language.
Mr. Pix is your happy assistant in the car, who is also hiding and appearing in and around the car, creating a bond between driver and the car UI.
Mr. Pix also pops up here and there as an easter egg in the interior.
